The Garrotxa is one of the regions with more variety of landscapes, mountains, grasslands, volcanoes and wonderful medieval villages. That is why we want to share with you the five most charming medieval towns in this region of the province of Girona, Garrotxa.

Besalú


Every corner of Besalú leads to the old medieval knights and their fights between bandits, its traditional markets and its historic buildings. Considered one of the best preserved medieval towns in Catalonia, Besalú is an architectural and historical, formed by the impressive Romanesque bridge that crosses over the river Fluvià, the church of San Vicente of the twelfth century, the former home of the micvé Jewish baths, or the Gothic room of the Royal Curia.

Castellfollit de la Roca


The tiny village of Castellfollit de la Roca is located on an amazing cliff 50 meters high under the feet of the river Fluvià. The ancient church of San Salvador, viewpoint with stunning views and its famous narrow streets make this little town in the Garrotxa. In addition Castellfollit of the Rock is the gateway to the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park.

Vall d'en Bas


Mountains, meadows, forests, beech forests, rivers and streams that make La Vall d'en Bas is one of the most green landscapes of Catalonia from the mountain tops of the valley we can see the best views of the Garrotxa. Villa del Mallol Hostalets d'en Bas are considered two historic-artistic.

Mieres


Like most towns of Garrotxa, Mieres is surrounded by nature, meadows, forests and streams that give us a sense of tranquility only. Also watch the neighborhood of warehouses, Ruïtlles church and the different churches of Sant Pere, Santa Maria and Pilgrimage of Santa Maria del Fresno, ideal for a walk and discover the history of this wonderful town.

Sant Joan les Fonts

The bridge, the mill Fund, the Benedictine monastery or castle Juvinyà are some of the major attractions of the medieval town of Sant Joan les Fonts. It is a necessary stop for all ski enthusiasts making their way to Andorra, vallter 2000, the Molina and Masella.
