Tarragona has many beaches and a wonderful climate of sun and good weather. The beaches of the Costa Daurada (Costa Dorada) are long and wide, with fine sand and shallow. Ideal for families with young children. In the extreme south, the Ebro Delta, is a fantastic place to go cycling, see birds and flamingos or go by boat through its beautiful coves with turquoise water. In addition to sun and beach, Tarragona has the landscapes of Els Ports for excursions, Catalan culture (Valls, Reus ...) and lots of fun (Port Aventura and many water parks). Choose your Tarragona rural house and enjoy your getaway.
The best beaches on the Costa Dorada
The beaches of Tarragona make up the Costa Dorada (Costa Daurada in Catalan), which receives this name because the sand shines like gold when the sun reflects it. In addition, they all have shallow access to the sea, which makes them ideal for families with young children.
Some of the best beaches on the Costa Dorada are: Coma-ruga and its Riuet (a river of water with beneficial properties), El Vendrell, Playa de l’Arrabassada in Tarragona; the wild Waikiki also in Tarragona, Paella beach in Torredembarra, Cala Crancs in Salou, Cristall Beach in Miami Platja, L’Arenal in L’Hospitalet de l’Infant and l’Ardíaca Beach in Cambrils.
Delta de l'Ebre
The Ebro Delta is one of the largest wetlands in all of Europe, and has an incomparable, unique, and singular natural setting. A landscape with great biological richness thanks to the large amount of flora and fauna that inhabit this territory, especially migratory birds. It is a paradise for bird watchers, but it is also an ideal environment for hiking or cycling along the different paths that run through the Natural Park.
In addition, in these lands there are also a great number of traditions and gastronomy, it is typical of the Ebro Delta to eat a good rice grown in the area, on the banks of the river, or the most daring can also try the eel of the area.
PN dels Ports
If you like hiking, good wine and want to disconnect between pine forests and olive groves, you can visit the area of the dels Ports Natural Park. It is a mountainous system, in the interior of Tarragona, full of forests, paths to explore, pools, and typical wild mountain fauna and flora.
Some of the most beautiful towns to visit are: Horta de Sant Joan, Batea, Prades, Mas de Barberans, Alfara de Carles, Paüls ...
Gastronomy
In Tarragona there is a lot of culture and gastronomy; and one is linked to the other. Calçots are typical in Valls and they are so good that Calçotades have become very popular throughout Catalonia (especially in winter-spring).
If you visit Reus, the most typical thing is vermouth. Have a vermouth on one of its terraces in the Plaza del Mercadal for example.
The province of Tarragona is very rich in wines. The Priorat region is full of vineyards.
In addition to vineyards, the interior landscape of Tarragona has many olive groves and virgin olive oil is very typical.
In the Ebro Delta the star product is rice and seafood. In l’Ampolla you can even visit a pan where they raise oysters and mussels. Very close, in l’Ametlla de Mar, tuna is very good.
